Terms of use
These terms are an agreement between you and the independent developer of Knotlore (织微 or 織微 in Chinese), based in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada (“we”, “us”). By using Knotlore, you agree to them.
1. What Knotlore is
Knotlore is a tool for reading the I Ching and reflecting on your own situation. It simulates traditional casting methods, shows the classical text, and offers an interpretation written by AI.
Knotlore is for reflection. It doesn't predict the future, and it isn't medical, psychological, legal, financial or other professional advice. Don't rely on it for decisions about health, safety, law or money; ask a qualified professional. If you or someone else is in danger, contact local emergency services.
AI interpretations can be wrong, incomplete or inappropriate. We don't guarantee any result, outcome or level of accuracy.
2. Who can use it
You must be at least 13, or the minimum age for using online services where you live if that's higher. Knotlore isn't offered in mainland China.
3. Acceptable use
Don't use Knotlore to:
- break the law, or help someone else break it;
- harass, threaten, deceive or monitor another person;
- send other people's sensitive personal information without their permission;
- get around the free limits or fair-use limits, including by automating requests;
- access, test or attack our server other than through the app, or reverse-engineer it;
- resell the service or our content.
We may limit or block access for installs that break these rules.
4. Your content
Your questions, notes and readings are yours. They're stored on your iPhone, as the privacy policy explains. When you use a cloud provider, you're responsible for what you send. If you use your own API key, your use of that provider is governed by your agreement with it, including its charges.
5. Free tier and Pro
- The free tier includes one ritual cast and three number casts a day (entering six lines yourself counts as a number cast), and two follow-up questions per reading. We may change the free limits; the app shows the current ones.
- Pro is available as a monthly or yearly subscription, or as a one-time lifetime purchase. Prices are shown in the app before you buy. Payment is charged to your Apple Account when you confirm the purchase.
- Subscriptions renew automatically unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the end of the current period. Your account is charged for renewal within 24 hours before the end of the current period. To manage or cancel, open Settings on your iPhone, tap your name, then tap Subscriptions. Cancelling stops the next renewal; Pro stays active until the end of the period you paid for.
- Pro includes unlimited casts. AI readings and follow-ups are subject to fair-use limits, which the app shows (currently 40 AI readings and 120 follow-ups a day). We may slow or limit automated or excessive use.
- The Knotlore server has a daily capacity. When it's reached, readings through it may be unavailable until the next day (UTC).
- A lifetime purchase unlocks Pro for as long as we offer Knotlore.
- Refunds are handled by Apple under its policies. You can restore purchases in the app.
6. Apple's Standard EULA
Knotlore is licensed to you under Apple's Licensed Application End User License Agreement (the Standard EULA). These terms add to it. If they conflict, the Standard EULA governs.
7. Our content
The classical texts are in the public domain. The app's design, code and original writing belong to us.
8. Changes and availability
We may change, suspend or stop features or the service. If we change these terms in a meaningful way, we'll update the effective date and, where reasonable, tell you in advance.
9. Disclaimers
Knotlore is provided “as is” and “as available”. To the extent the law allows, we disclaim all warranties, including warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement. We don't control the services of Apple, Cloudflare or AI providers and aren't responsible for them.
10. Limitation of liability
To the extent the law allows, we aren't liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for decisions you make based on a reading. Our total liability for any claim is limited to the amount you paid for Knotlore in the 12 months before the claim. Some places don't allow these limits, so they may not apply to you. Nothing in these terms limits rights you have under consumer protection law that can't be waived.
11. Ending
You can stop using Knotlore at any time and delete your data in the app. We may suspend access for anyone who breaks these terms.
12. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of British Columbia and the federal laws of Canada that apply there. Disputes go to the courts of British Columbia, unless the law where you live gives you the right to bring them elsewhere.
