Common questions

What casting methods does Knotlore use?

Three. The ritual cast simulates the yarrow-stalk method (大衍筮法) step by step: of 50 stalks, 49 are used, divided three times for each of the six lines. The number cast (數字卦) uses three three-digit numbers you choose. The first gives the lower trigram, the second the upper trigram, and the third the one changing line. Note that 梅花易數 takes the upper trigram from the first number; Knotlore follows its own convention. You can also enter the six lines of a cast you made yourself, for example with coins; this counts as a number cast.

Are the odds really exact?

Yes. The ritual cast reproduces the classical procedure, and each line comes out with the classical yarrow-stalk odds exactly: 6 (old yin) 1/16, 7 (young yang) 5/16, 8 (young yin) 7/16, 9 (old yang) 3/16. Three coins give different odds: 2/16, 6/16, 6/16 and 2/16. The randomness comes from the system's cryptographically secure random number generator.

How much can I use for free?

Each day, one ritual cast and three number casts, with two follow-up questions per reading. Pro removes the cast limits and allows up to 40 AI readings and 120 follow-ups a day (fair use). It also adds memory across readings and 30- and 90-day check-ins.

Which AI writes the interpretation?

By default, readings and follow-ups use Apple's Private Cloud Compute, part of Apple Intelligence, and help wording your question tries Apple's on-device model first. If Apple's models can't answer, Knotlore asks for your consent and then uses the Knotlore server, which currently uses Xiaomi MiMo. In Settings › AI provider you can choose Apple only (nothing goes to another company), the Knotlore server, or your own API key for OpenAI, Anthropic, Xiaomi MiMo or DeepSeek.

When does Knotlore ask for consent, and how do I withdraw it?

The first time a request would go to a cloud provider other than Apple, Knotlore names the provider and asks you. If you decline, nothing is sent. Consent is per provider; you can review or withdraw it in Settings › AI provider. If the provider behind the Knotlore server changes, Knotlore asks you again. The privacy policy explains what each path sends.

How do I delete my data?

In the app, open the Data screen. Delete all data erases your cases, readings, remembered facts, check-ins and consents. It keeps the install ID, daily usage counts and your purchases, so the limits and Pro keep working. You can export everything first, as JSON and Markdown. Your own API keys stay in the Keychain, even after you delete the app, until you remove them in Settings › AI provider. There's no account, so we have no copy of your readings.

How do I restore purchases or cancel Pro?

Sign in to the App Store with the Apple Account you used to buy Pro, then tap Restore Purchases in the app. To cancel a subscription, open Settings on your iPhone, tap your name, then tap Subscriptions. For a refund, use Apple's reportaproblem.apple.com.

Why did Knotlore decline my question?

It keeps to 三不占: no casting without sincerity, for a wrongful aim, or without real doubt. If a question can be looked up, is meant to harm someone, or isn't really in doubt, Knotlore says so and helps you ask something a reading can help with.
